代表作には A Place on Earth(1967年)、 Jayber Crow(2000年)、 Hannah Coulter(2004年)などがある。

- (原文:"The care of the Earth is our most ancient and most worthy, and after all our most pleasing responsibility. To cherish what remains of it and to foster its renewal is our only legitimate hope of survival.")[37]
The two great aims of industrialism - replacement of people by technology and concentration of wealth into the hands of a small plutocracy - seem close to fulfillment.")[38]
Whether we or our politicians know it or not, Nature is party to all our deals and decisions, and she has more votes, a longer memory, and a sterner sense of justice than we do.")[39]
- (原文:"The soil is the great connector of lives, the source and destination of all. It is the healer and restorer and resurrector, by which disease passes into health, age into youth, death into life. Without proper care for it we can have no community, because without proper care for it we can have no life.")[40]
- (原文:"Economic constraint might cancel out affection, but affection is going to be the motivating cause. So what it comes down to—and you can imagine trying to convince a politician in Washington of this—is that we need to subsidize affection.")[41]
A computer, I am told … will help you write faster, easier, and more. … Do I, then, want to write faster, easier, and more? No. My standards are not speed, ease, and quantity.")[42]
- (原文:"When despair for the world grows in me and I wake in the night at the least sound in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be, I go and lie down where the wood drake rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds. I come into the peace of wild things who do not tax their lives with forethought of grief. … For a time I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.")[43]
